The Features of Chrome
Google has been working hard to come out with yet another weapon for their consumer. I'm already a die-hard Google fanatic, as you can probably tell I'm already using their blog site. Currently Chrome has a beta version for Macs, but everything should tie together nicely soon (Gmail, YouTube, Map, etc).
This video displays a series of commercial for Chrome, a very nice touch using a "low tech" approach in showing a "high tech" development. I truly enjoyed these spots and the cleverness behind them. Not to mention the production and execution was phenomenal. Once again Google did not disappoint, hopefully the full version for Mac will be release soon. Until then, I'll familiarize myself with the PC side.

Action Sports Part 2 : Taking Initiative

So recently I came across some great photography by Marcus Maschwitz and contacted him about his work. I expressed to him how I was looking to break into the world of action sports and with his permission to use his shots, I would turn around an ad campaign. Something he can post as tear sheets and I can use in my portfolio.
Thanks Marcus! I hope we can work on some projects together soon.

Great Minds

A few months ago I came up with an idea to design a skateboard deck to look like a band-aid. After all, any decent or good skater knows that band-aids are a part of this culture. So finally today, I decided to look for a plain deck photo to execute my design only to find out that my concept has been done! The first image was done by Ken Mori using paint and a blank board. After this disappointing discovery, I googled "band-aid skateboard" and learned that SPY also have their own version of a "Band Deck."
Even though I wanted to apply this vision to my own portfolio, I am glad to see other visionaries out there dreaming up these clever and fun ideas. Until next time, stay creative friends.

Piano Stairs
I had to share this, such a nice idea. A company selling a good feeling oppose to a brand or are they? It's a lot like the Honda musical road project, allowing the people to become more involved with what they've executed. However, do these ideas really sell cars? I would say it gets the car company's name out. The audience will be talking about it, news media, magazines, etc. so it's a great branding tool, but as far as selling a product, it's hard to say.

Action Sports

What an awesome industry to work for. Who wouldn't want to work by the beach? But aside from perfect location and the perks of wearing the freshest stuff, you get to do what you love and keep the lifestyle you already have.
I met a guy not too long ago that's been in this industry for about 4 years now and he already knows that he's going to retire at his current employer.
This is my 1st advertising/design piece for the malakye world. I hope you like it, I hope it gets me noticed, and I hope you stick around for I am sure to bring more work like this to the table.
Peace
Google's Master Plan
Looks like Google really is today's Big Brother. Scary thought of a company with so much power at hand. We all use their products on a daily basis, this blog for example and of course your regular search engine. So routine that we fail to realize how much of our personal information we deliver to them. After viewing this video, will it likely reduce my use of the company's products? Probably not, as alarming as it may be, gmail, picasa, youtube, googlemap/earth, and even their latest google voice make our lives so much easier that perhaps the trade-off is worth our wild. At least that's where I stand today.

A Given Chance
For me, I’ve always been a creative. From the time my 3rd grade teacher met with my parents informing them that I needed to pay more attention as she lectured instead of drawing comic characters to the occasion when I was called in for questioning about a painting I did in college. I guess being accuse of not doing something you really did do is a compliment.
But because of that ability, I was offered an entry-level job as a Jr. AD at a small but great agency when I graduated. They are of all things EXPERIENCED. I guess you’d have to be if you’ve been around for over 30 years, survived the DOT.Bombs and is still standing today during this dark time. But unfortunately, the client list that comes with working at this place isn’t “the coolest.” They do not carry the “unlimited budget” that some accounts might have and they are definitely not the “most casual” as we would all like our clients to be. So with that said, how do you get hired into an agency known for their “edgy work,” when you really never get the chance to prove that you can perform just as well or better then the stuff coming out of these companies? Being in the business, we all know that it doesn’t take one person to come up with an award winning spot. It has to do with the strategy, concept, execution, production, media and so much more in between these elements. Some time I feel like people think an ad is good just because they’ve seen it that many times.
I’m very grateful I have a job and I do not hate where I am because I work for a very kind employer that is fair and shows his staff respect and appreciation. I am simply exhausted of not being able to execute some of my ideas due to budget and fear.
My apologies for venting, but you call yourself brave, try giving a young Creative a chance to prove his worth.

Clients/Agency
We should all present this to our clients when placed in a situation about budget, no not really but it sure would be nice if they came across this on their own. The video is as funny as it is sad. Sad because of how true the relationship between Clients and Agencies are. At least it was a good laugh. Thanks for doing this Scofield Editorial, Inc

VW Factory - Germany
Art and Design are all around us; we know that, but the Germans has taken it to a whole new level.

Hello Photo - Infinite Photograph
We've all seen this idea in use for quite some time now, but National Geographic has taken it to a different level. Because "new ideas" are hard to come by, try to make the current ones better. Great concept for NG though. To be a photographer for them would truly be a dream come true.
Try it out yourself:

Going Back 2 Old School

After a long day of work on a cold Monday night, my partner in crime and I decided to grab a few cold ones. A few being 2 drinks each. Five minutes in, and we're pounding away our 2nd drink, it's time to call it a night and get ready for Tuesday.
"What the heck, lets grab 1 more!"
BOOMMBB
An idea came up. I had to write it down, so I grabbed a couple of napkins. No Mac, no Adobe, no Wacom. Just some good o' napkins and the red pen I had in my pocket. In about 3 minutes, we accomplished 3 layouts.
"Another round please."
We decided to go get some air. LA is a crazy town. Saw an angry guy trying to pick a fight with 4 Wannabehardcorethugs in the car behind him. Saw a guy riding his road bike up and down the same street and a woman at the corner, or was it a man? No definitely a woman (Shes a Talent Agent--WATCH OUT HollywoodLand). Anyhoo, I think we just came up with another concept. We go back in. Ben writes it down as I sketch it out.
"Another round please."
So much for 2 cold ones, we might as well order some dinner. By the way, if you're ever at the Village Idiot, do yourself a favor and order the half chicken.
The place is really starting to fill up. The Drunken Ethnic Creature next to us wanted to be fed a cherry. No Thanks said Ben. DING... yes, at first I thought it was my chicken, but no I just smelled another concept. Our dinner has arrived.
"Another round please."
12 drinks, 3 campaign concepts, 9 layouts, 2 meals later, we decided to call it a night.
I love you old school advertising. Lets do it again sometimes.

Imaginative Mind

It's always nice to come across creative ideas executed. Imagine coming to work in an environment where your surroundings are filled with furnishing like this. That should spark some inspiration. I wonder when this will be available to the public, better yet who would really have the courage to purchase such a non expected piece?

1st Time 4 Everything
Originally, this blog was suppose to be created on Jan. 1st of 09! but this year has gone by faster then most of us can blink, so hello Wednesday February 25.
I often write things down as they pop into my head, sometimes during lunch and sometimes in the middle of the silent night. My problem with that is, I always misplace my little notes, my creative ideas, etc. Lets hope I don't forget this url or this will be my first and last blog under this name.
